Salwai and Gusmao

Timor-Leste’s independence hero, Mr Gusmao (left) met with Prime Minister Charlot Salwai yesterday.

Prime Minister Charlot Salwai yesterday met the Chief Negotiator of the Maritime Boundary of Timor-Leste (East Timor), Mr Xanana Gusmao.

Gusmao was welcomed by the prime minister who said Vanuatu has a lesson to learn from Timor-Leste on how to tackle its maritime boundary.

Mr Gusmao, Timor-Leste’s independence hero, acknowledged Vanuatu for its support in its struggle for Independence.

He said the two countries have many things in common and it is good for both countries to share information regarding the issue of maritime boundaries.

Gusmao says all countries are equal under the law but not all countries have access to it.

He encouraged Vanuatu to raised the issue of maritime boundary at the next meeting of the United Nations next year as an awareness to the international community.
