Politicians eager to know date of General Election

Politicians in Port Vila are already asking questions concerning the 2020 national general elections date.

While the national government is yet to decide on the actual official date for the 2020 general elections, some politicians say the country need to know well in advance the actual official dates for the next parliamentary elections, in 2020.

“The politicians need to know and so the people or voters also need to know, well in advance because some politicians in the government are already launching out with their political campaigns in the islands. It is clear that the Salwai led government state ministers and politicians are using government time, money and resources to launch out with their political party’s propagandas,” one Port Vila base politician voiced to Daily Post.

Asked not to be named, a politician in the capital said he welcomed the recent remarks by a government senior public servant who cautioned the national leaders in the government not to politicized government development issues for 2020 GE.

“It has become apparent that senior government officials are using government time, money and resources to start their propagandas towards the 2020 GE. These are corrupt practices and cannot be tolerated by a democratic and a Christian nation as Vanuatu,” said the politician.

He said he understood the date of the 2020 general elections to be either the 5th or 6th of march 2020, but the national government must decide on the official date and make it public as early as possible,” said the politician.
