Prime Minister, Charlot Salwai, continues his visits to evacuees from Ambae and today he is visiting the evacuees on Maewo.

The Prime Minister is accompanied by the Minister for Climate Change and MP for Pentecost, Ham Lini, and MP for Ambae, Jay Ngwele.

Coordinator for the Maewo Response Management Team coordinating hosting of the Ambae families, Ezekiel Boelum, says a program has been organized to take place at Gaiogwo village for the Prime Minister’s delegation to meet representatives and leaders of the 500 Ambae evacuees on Maewo. He says that the delegation will be welcomed by the MP for Maewo, Ian Wilson, and the chiefs and community leaders.

Boelum confirmed transport has been organized to pick up the evacuees by trucks from Nasawa, Narovorovo, Talise, Navene and Kerepei to Gaiogwo and from Naone, Mariono and Naumu’umu in the north.

The Prime Minister and the MPs for Penama Province will have the opportunity to meet and speak with the Ambae evacuees, almost all of them from East Ambae villages, and hear from them about how they are being accommodated by Maewo families.

PM Salwai has made similar visits to Pentecost and Luganville, which have the majority of the 11,000 evacuees from Ambae, in Santo.
