The Vanuatu Parliament will sit in its Second Ordinary Session for 2014 from November 18 to December 19.

The Prime Minister, Joe Natuman, wrote to the Speaker of Parliament, Philip Boedoro, requesting the date of the sitting, following which the Speaker has obliged and he has summoned the members of the house to the sitting. One of the main businesses of the session will be to debate the government’s budget for 2015 – the Bill for the Appropriation (2015) Act No. of 2014.

Along with the request for the dates and the calling of the Second Ordinary Session of Parliament, Prime Minister Natuman attached a list of 24 Government Bills including the Bill for the Appropriation (2015) Act No. of 2014 for debate by the 52-member house. Twenty-one of the 24 Bills listed so far for debate are Amendment Bills.

Apart from the Appropriation Bill, one of the two other non-amendment bills is the long awaited Bill for the Public Land Transport Act No. of 2014. This legislation has long been anticipated as the answer to a whole host of issues hampering the orderly development of the land transport industry in the country. The other is the Bill for the Planted Forest Act No. of 2014.
