Parliament endorses Vt6.4 billion budget

When tabling the supplementary budget in parliament this week, the Minister of Finance and Economic Management Gaetan Pikioune, explained that a large bulk of the supplementary budget is categorized under the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management (MFEM).

However, this contains large expenditure items on behalf of Government, including debt repayments in advance, Shared Vision 2030, severance payment, grant bodies, the National Games in Tanna and the Pacific Mini Games in Samoa. Removing these items, the supplementary budget for MFEM becomes VT 279.2 million, and the total supplementary budget becomes VT 2,453.3million. Therefore, the large portion of the supplementary budget is allocated to Ministry of Education (31.6%) and Ministry of Infrastructure and Public utilities (29.2 %) followed by MFEM (11.4%) and other agencies.
