Members of the National Cluster Group mostly from the National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) have completed a one day Pacific Incident Management System (PacIMS) awareness course at the Ministry for Climate Change and Adaptation (MOCC) in Port Vila recently.
The course provides participants with an understanding of disaster management principles and terminology required to work in an emergency operations centre.
PacIMS has been specifically developed for the Pacific Island nations.
Vanuatu is playing a vital role in strengthening emergency management across the region, resulting in shared knowledge and skills when it comes to disaster and climate change response.
This awareness course is just the first step in the NDMO’s strategic plan to strengthen emergency operation centres throughout Vanuatu.
Courses are scheduled in Sanma and Tafea this month before being delivered to the remaining Provinces.
Course participants knowledge and skills will be further strengthened in August and September of this year when they attended a 3-day Working in an Emergency Operations Centre course funded by SPC and delivered to both National and Provincial staff.
Vanuatu is once again showing that it can lead the way in disaster and emergency management throughout the Pacific by training individuals to work in an emergency operations centre.
