Officer involved in accident suspended

The Office of the Police Commissioner has confirmed the officer who was recently implicated in an accident involving the Police Commissioner's official vehicle has been suspended.

Police say there will be no internal police investigation into this matter. It was a traffic accident and therefore, it would be dealt with according to the traffic laws. The officer would be treated similarly to any civilians.

They also wished to clarify that the Police Traffic Unit attended the accident scene as soon as they received the report, and have laid charges against the officer involved.

"Additional charges will be laid against the officer after the completion of investigations. The case file will go straight to the prosecutions for court hearing," police said.

However, they did not specify the charges laid against the officer.
