The volcano alert level for the Yasur volcano on Tanna has been decreased from 3 to 2.
Last Saturday, the Vanuatu Meteorology and Geo-Hazards Department (VMGD) issued a warning of the volcano’s increased activity.
The volcano maintained level 3 until on Tuesday this week.
Though the level is reduced to 2, VMGD has advised the volcano will continue to experience intense explosions and throw lava bombs in and around the crater.
Nearby villages exposed to trade winds can also be affected by volcanic gas and ashes.
Meanwhile, the other volcanoes on Ambae, Ambrym, Gaua and Vanua Lava also remain unrest.
VMGD is closely monitoring and will provide update.
