The MSG Support Team to FLNKS for the 2018 Referendum led by the Director General Ambassador Amena Yauvoli wrapped up its work in Noumea yesterday with a final meeting with Madame Caroline Machoro-Rennier, 1st Vice President of the New Caledonia Congress, and Mr Mickael Forest, Permanent Secretary of FLNKS.
In accordance with the mandate of our MSG Leaders pursuant to the 2013 Noumea Declaration adopted in Noumea and the 2018 Action Plan of Support to FLNKS adopted by Leaders in February 2018 in Papua New Guinea, the Secretariat was tasked to assist the FLNKS in preparing for the 2018 Referendum.
The MSG support Team arrived into Noumea on 1 November and stayed through out the period pre and post referendum attending various meetings so as to ensure that its assistance to FLNKS is effective and productive.
While the results of the referendum was not a win, it was very encouraging to see such a result despite the opinion polls.
The meeting with Madame Machoro- Renier was useful as it provided the opportunity to assess and identify key strategies going forward.
The Director General and his team were expected back in Port Vila yesterday.
