The next and the final phase of the construction of the Talise Hydro Power Project on Maewo is now about to get underway after the landing craft LC Tina 1 delivered to the island last week some 25 tons of material for the project.

LC Tina 1 landed at Narovorovo, Maewo, with 25 tonnes materials for Talise Hydro Power Project Phase 2 work including about a dozen huge rolls of high voltage cables, steel poles, and the transformer.

All those materials had been expected in October last year for the work to wire the electrical power to the homes to be completed for the official opening during the December festive season.

Now that the consignment has just arrived the works should start soon for the completion of the project.

The people of the three villages of Talise, Narovorovo and Nasawa who will benefit from the project thank the Italian Government, Australian Aid, Vanuatu Government, Pelena Energy Australia, Former MP of Maewo Philip Boedoro, and the current MP Ian Wilson for their assisting in achieving this second phase of the project.

This community project is the first of its kind in Vanuatu and will be a concept that the government can use to apply to other rural communities in Vanuatu.
