The answer to the question of ‘what is the name of the island with the smallest number of people that live there?’ is Lopevi Island in Malampa Province.
The volcanic island has a population of two elderly people – a man and his wife.
Visitors to the island have assured Daily Post the couple are well. “They feed their chickens and have a Seventh Day Adventist church house complete with two chairs and one church bell”, the police officer spokesman says.
Asked what he was doing on the island, he says they visited the island as part of an outing while on official duties on nearby Paama Island.
He says they brought with them some essentials and bought some chickens from them.
Though highly unpredictable, Lopevi Island he says is rich in terms of fish in the sea and wild yam on land.
In fact there are reports that digging the soft highly rich volcanic soil for wild yam is not hard at all, and that the hilly sandy soil is a favourite for giant water melons too.
