A committee established to oversee the one-day celebration of the 37th Independence Anniversary is working hard to ensure the special day is celebrated with pride.

This year, July 30 falls on a Sunday and Port Vila Mayor has announced that celebrations will be commemorated on that particular day only.

The committee is comprised of a representative each from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office, Vanuatu Police Force, State office, and the Port Vila Municipal Council with the Lord Mayor as its chairman.

This committee is working hard at putting together a program of the day.

According to the draft program, the official ceremony will take place in the morning followed by public lunch.

Entertainment from church groups and music bands will begin after lunch and go on into the night. The day’s program is expected to end well before midnight.

The official program is expected to be finalised by the end of this week.

A theme of this year’s anniversary will be out early this week.

Meanwhile, the official opening of the 37th Independence Anniversary will be staged on Tuesday July 25.

According to its program, a parade that will be led by the Vanuatu Mobile Force is expected to kick off at Moorings area to the Independence Garden where Mayor Ulrich Sumptoh will give a speech followed by the Minister of Internal Affairs, Alfred Maoh.

Mayor Sumptoh will also inspect a Guard of Honor by the Force members.
