The Government through the Ministry of Youth Development and Sports has handover the first tranche payment Cheque worth of Vt 2million for the Vanuatu National Games to be hosted by the Tafea Province.
The handing-over was made by the Director General of the Ministry for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Henry Vira to the Chairman of the TAFEA National Games Local Organizing Committee (LOC), Acting Secretary General Mr. Etienne Ravo at the Korman Sports Complex in Port Vila.
While handing over the Cheque, DG Vira congratulates the host province, TAFEA for having strong confidence to host the games despite challenges. He also reiterates the importance in working together as a team in preparation to bring this national sporting event to the province and confirmed that a team of officers will be leaving to inspect the facilities and meet with the LOC to see the current preparation status soon.
The LOC Chairman confirmed that, “The National Games will still on, we will ensure all funding given towards the Games will be strictly utilized in a transparent manner.”
The LOC chairman assured the DG that, under his leadership, he will ensure the money given will be used for the right purposes towards the Games preparation.
The countdown has begun as preparations are tight.
“Timing is a constraint. We have eight weeks to go and different working committees are really putting effort on Logistical preparations to ensure preparations are on time for the Game”, says Allan Dan, TAFEA Provincial Youth & Sports Officer.
All participating Provinces and Municipalities must consider that the Official Games date is 5th to– 11th May and Logistical dates is from the 28th April- 17th May.
TAFEA Province will be expecting a total of 1856 athletes and officials competing in 12 different Sports Discipline on Tanna. The other provinces must send their confirmed list of participants to the LOC by end of next week 22 March for final Logistics arrangements.
”We have what we have currently in place for our sports facilities” Allan Dan stated.
All facilities for the different sports disciplines are in place after last year’s Inter Secondary School Games and we will do some final touches before the actual commencement of the Games.
Meanwhile, the Government will support the games with a total of 4 Million Vatu.
