The people of Emae living in Port Vila now have a Council of Chiefs to strengthen unity and address issues affecting them.
The establishment of the Emae Port Vila Council of Chiefs will support the recognition of the Emae-Makira-Mataso Council of Chiefs under the Malvatumauri Council of Chiefs.
The Emae-Makira-Mataso Council of Chiefs was not recognized by the national body of chiefs in Vanuatu before because the Emae Council of Chiefs did not exist. Makira and Mataso councils have already been established.
The newly formed Emae Port Vila Council of Chiefs comprises of chief representatives from all villages on Emae.
It was established with technical advice from the Epi Council of Chiefs in Port Vila and community leaders from Emae.
The election of Chairman Alice Valeros, Secretary Joseph Peter, Treasurer Kalo Tarisingomata,Vice Chairman Ben Marikoro, Vice Secretary Philip Tapanga, Vice Treasurer Kalotete Masasamaki and members was attended by Councilor and Vice President of Shefa Province, Shem Daniel and the people of Emae in Port Vila.
