Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, Liu Quan, has handed over Parliamentary equipment valued at approximately Vt8 million to the national Parliament.
The donation includes 52 high quality mobile phones for the 52 MPs.
The Chinese Ambassador,described the relationship between the People’s Republic of China and Vanuatu as ‘Strategic Relationship with mutual respect and common understanding’.
Speaking to the Daily Post after the signing and handing over ceremony with the Speaker of Parliament Esmon Saimon, Ambassador Liu Quan reiterated the importance that the Chinese Government places on Vanuatu and also other Pacific Island countries.
“The Chinese Government always maintains our relationship with Vanuatu and other pacific countries as ‘Strategic Relationship’ with Mutual Respect and Common Understanding’,” he said. “We always and will continue to maintain peace and development and share the fruits of growth with the Peoples of the South Pacific.”
He also stressed China South,South Cooperation with Vanuatu and other Pacific countries.
He revealed that China is set to become a “Developed Nation’ by the year 2049.
“By the year 2049, China will shift from being a developing nation to ‘Developed Nation’,” the Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu, Liu Quan, told Daily Post last Friday.
On the question of growing presence of China in Vanuatu and the Pacific, Ambassador Liu Quan, replied: “It is not our intention to control anyone, but rather to assist other developing countries and provide assistance they need to build and advance these countries economically in different areas as we have already undertaken, say here in Vanuatu as seen today such as, major infrastructures-wharf, Prime Minister’s offices, roads, Mini-Games Sports facilities, Chinese Chancery, and other projects we have undertaken in the past such as the national convention center and those in the pipeline”.
He said with the population of 1.4 billion people, China has the second largest government in the world while at the same time, moving towards becoming a ‘Developed Nation’ by the year 2049- 22 years from now. He reiterated that it is not China’s intention to control anyone, but rather to maintain peace and development and share the fruits of growth with Vanuatu and the Peoples of the Pacific.
