Celebrating New Year with ‘bonne annee’ singing

Bonne annee group from the village of Nivenue in east Epi recently visited Lamen Bay and Lamenu Island

People from Epi and other islands have been welcoming and celebrating the New year with bonne annee singing and dancing since the 1st of January.

On East Epi, communities are expected to receive bonne annee groups until January 15. It is the ideal time for everyone to unite and farewell the old year and welcome the new year with joy, and new plans.

Some bonne annee groups have also been seen visiting families in Port Vila.

‘Bonne annee’ singing has long been practised in Vanuatu. New Year’s Eve and New Year are usually well celebrated on the islands than in towns. The New Year’s eve celebration in Port Vila is always held with stunning fireworks displays.
