Over the coming months VCCI would like to introduce you to your Council members. This week we feature Council member of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Joseph Brun.
Name, position and sector you represent on the council:
Current Council member
Sector represented on the Council – Small Commerce
Brief summary about yourself and your business:
I am the owner of BRuNs Exports, based here in Port Vila. BRuNs Exports is a small export business dealing mainly with kava exports. We work with approximately five thousand farmers, mostly growers of kava and taro throughout Vanuatu.
We purchase goods from the islands that are then shipped to Port Vila for processing.
Your vision for the sector you represent / what you would like to achieve for the sector while serving on the council:
I have hope for the future of agriculture in Vanuatu.
I continue to engage in dialogue with the Vanuatu Cooperative and Ni-Vanuatu Business Development Service, to encourage them to grow and strengthen their network to in turn support the increase in productivity of the farmers I represent in agriculture and export markets.
Through quality training offered to, and up to date, correct information being passed down to the rural producers, I anticipate we will see more quality produce, especially in the kava industry. The agriculture industry needs access to funding to provide the right infrastructure, machinery and equipment to increase production for the commercial sector.
Are you a member of a sector related association, if so, which one?:
I am currently involved with the Vanuatu Kava Industry Association or VKIA (formerly known as the Kava Industry Working Group),
