14 Amendment Bills

Only one of the 15 Government Bills listed for the First Extraordinary Session of the Vanuatu Parliament for 2017 opening today in Port Vila will not be an Amendment Bill.

It is the Bill for the United Nations Financial Sanctions Act No. of 2017. The rest, 14 in all, are Amendment Bills.

Bill for the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing (Amendment) Act No. of 2017; 6.) Bill for Dealers in Securities (Licensing) (Amendment) Act No. of 2017; 7.) Bill for the International Banking (Amendment) Act No. of 2017; 8.) Bill for the Casino (Control) (Amendment) Act No. of 2017; 9.) Bill for the Company and Trust Services Provider (Amendment) Act No. of 2017; 10.) Bill for the International Companies (Amendment) Act No. of 2017; 11.) Bill for the Penal Code (Amendment) Act. Of 2017; 12.) Bill for the Copyright and Related Rights (Amendment) Act No. of 2017; 13.) Bill for the Firearms (Amendment) Act No. of 2017; 14.) Bill for the Import Duties (Amendment) Act No. of 2017; and 15.) Bill for the Excise Tax (Amendment) Act No. of 2017.

The opening of the First Extraordinary Session of Parliament today follows the closing of the First Ordinary Session for 2017 that closed last Thursday afternoon after it was opened as is tradition by the Head of State, President Baldwin Lonsdale.

That session passed a Supplementary Budget for the Government of Vt1.7 billion and a number of land reform bills including and

the contentious Bill for the Land Acquisition (Amendment) Act.
